Sailing around Scotland

Derek is now almost two months into his journey to sail solo around the coast of Britain and has already covered an amazing 1,011 nautical miles – that’s 1,065 road miles!

There have been some challenges (high winds and fog to name just a few!) but Derek pressed on, stopping in Arbroath, Peterhead, then Whitehills, where the harbourmaster Bertie waived Derek’s berthing fee as he is on a charity challenge – thank you Bertie!

After a short stopover in Lossiemouth, Derek sailed on to Inverness and then entered the Caledonian Canal, where his wife Ruth joined him – together they navigated 29 locks, 10 swing bridges and 4 lochs! Derek is now back to singlehanded sailing; he’s currently in Tobermory and is taking a short and well-deserved break to explore some of the Western Isles before heading south again.

We are thrilled to say that Derek has reached his fundraising target, having raised an amazing £2,010 so far!! Thank you so much to everyone who has made a donation and a massive thank you to Derek!
